We don't. It's just that *capturing* the person(s) responsible for this
heinous crime, and then transporting them to a place where justice may be
served, and then imprisoning them for the remainder of their natural lives
(as would be fitting, even from the perspective of someone opposed to the
death penalty, which I assume you are, Terry) is essentially an impossible
task. Think about it, and for the sake of argument let's just say Osama
bin Laden is the only individual left alive who is responsible:
1: We somehow, by some miracle, capture him alive.
2: We now have the issue of keeping him that way, since about 100 million
pissed-off Americans want his head (and other key body parts) in lots of
little pieces, and his followers want him back and have already proven
they're willing to go to great lengths to get what they want.
3: Let's say another miracle happens and we keep him alive so he can be
transported to The Hague, where he is put on trial for crimes against
humanity and convicted. See #2 for why we would be very lucky for him to
be alive and still in captivity (without losing lots of people guarding
him) after this was over.
4: Invoking one last miracle, we jail ObL for life, probably not in the US.
Again, see #2 for difficulties that would arise keeping him there.
It basically comes down to this: killing the responsible parties in a
concerted and directed military action once they have been identified is
far simpler (and far less costly in human life) in the long run than would
be keeping them alive.
>probably require military action in this case, but idealists are not wrong in

They're not wrong for wishing for it, just unrealistic. Idealists might
have grand thoughts and visions, but realists are much more useful to have
as consultants, judges, leaders, and military figures...
Now, can we please **NOT** discuss this here any more? Maybe on Mac2Mac or
something...
Thanks,
c
