eBay worked for me.  I recently bought a couple of Apple 600e external
CD-ROM drives.  One of them was still new in the box.  The advantage of
staying with Apple drives is that you won't need any additional CD-ROM
driver software and they can easly be used as a boot drive.  They are only
quad speed, but should work just fine for updating software.  Cost was about
30-40 bucks.  You can also find some 8x up through 24x drives as well.  Just
depends on how much $ you want to spend.
