Scotch tape would come unstuck. Glue would most assuredly form an
insulator between the lead & the solder pad.

Soldering is an Art. Especially on printed circuit boards. If
you're not fluent in the Art, it's best not to practice your skills
on a good computer.

Do you have a friend with soldering skills, or, local electronics
tech who would be willing to do you a favour? Maybe exchange favours?

Otherwise, the best thing would be to put the project on hold for
a while. Get yourself a low wattage soldering iron & a spool of fine,
rosin core solder. Dig through your neighbors' rubbish for old
radios, televisions, anything with printed circuit boards inside.
Take them home and practice, practice, practice.
You'll want to get to the point where you can solder down a wire
without bridging between copper paths, without raising any copper
paths from the circuit board, and without heating any components to
the point where they're too hot to touch... And every solder joint
you do comes out nice & shiny.

It's not a skill you're going to learn in a day. But, it's a skill
that will come in handy many, many times if you plan to make
computers your hobby.

Andrew
