I use a LaCie 4x4x16x (Yamaha Mechanism) on my SE/30 (System 7.1, 32 MB RAM, 1 GB HD). I can burn CD-Rs at 4x and CD-RWs at 2x. As a side note, I used to be able to burn CD-RWs at 4x, but I thknk that was because I had 60ns (or maybe 50ns) simms; when I pulled the two-chippers and replaced them with 8-chippers, I think that was the reason I can't burn at 4x :-(
