Yah, SCSI. I evicted a 44meg SyQuest from an
external case then planted a Panasonic 7502W 4X
CD-R in it. It's a bit on the bulky side but
it works. There are some "slimline" external SCSI
cases that are hardly bigger than a 5.25" drive
and put the power supply behind the drive. Still
bulky but that's as good as it gets unless you
find a custom cased external SCSI CD-R/RW drive
designed for portability. Those often come with
a PCMCIA (16bit) or CardBus (32bit) controller.
If your PowerBook doesn't have PCMCIA or CardBus
then you want to make sure the drive has a cable
or converter available for a standard SCSI port.

Some of the PPC PowerBooks with PCMCIA can be upgraded
to CardBus, but it ain't cheap to have done.
