I have two LC's, an LCIII+ and a Performa 460 that have the PRAM operating
successfully on 3 volts, using a $1.49 enclosed battery holder from Radio
Shack (with leads tack-soldered onto the original Mac battery holder) and
two alkaline AA-cells each. They've each been operating now for 4 months or
more with no apparent drop in voltage, since the current drain is negligible
for the clock and PRAM (Think how long the battery lasts in a digital
watch!). Some people seem to think that doing this is something like
sacreligious, but when you can buy an LC for $4 or less, it seems crazy to
spend 6 to 10 dollars for the "proper" lithium battery. Besides, I get
AA-cells free. :-)
