The 64 has a 6510 in it, a 6502 with a built-in I/O port used for cassette
operations and memory banking signals. Commodore actually owned MOS
Technologies, the developers of the 6502, and licensed the design.

The NES used a 6502 without decimal mode (IIRC), but the SNES uses a 65816,
a 16-bit version (the IIgs also uses the '816), with a few modifications.

Interestingly, the C64 can be powered by a 65816 with an add-on cartridge
called the SuperCPU.
