It almost certainly was a 5.25" 1/2 height like mine. They look huge. As 
a good size gauge I stood the 3.5" 40S on the underneath and the four 
corners of the smaller drive sat on the underside mounting screws of the 
larger one! I'm not taking mine apart if it still works though, it's a 
positive antique.

Should have taken it apart, the platters make really interesting coffee 
mats, definitely better than AOL CDs! I am going to take the cover off 
of the 40S and spin it up with the roof off. Should be a good experience.
