Mart, still on the question of old scanners: >Ken: >>Actually, a hard day of web Goggling ended up with my >>finding an archive that had the disk images of the >>original software package that came with the 600/27, >>so I grabbed a copy of that. > >Good!
Yeah, a really odd site called driverguide.com - it requires a membership and I'm positive any email you provide becomes spam material. So I set up a temp account on my server, got the registration material, and then killed the account. Spam that, ya bastards. If anyone is interested in poking around, you can log in as "drivers" with a pw of "all". I did fine most of the Everex drivers that Everex/Abaton abandoned when they quit developing for Mac. They made some nice peripherals in the Mac II era. > >I've got the scanner hooked up to a PB3400c, and the >>install went fine - but the computer locks up every time >>I try to scan about halfway through - it does the >>preview scan just fine, but locks on actual scan. >>Strange. My feeling is it's a conflict somewhere. > >or just plain corrupted software? No, it turns out that the driver and software are not compatible with Virtual Memory, so you either have to turn VM off, or get the updated Dispatcher/Ofoto driver v 4.2, which I found on the Apple site. http://download.info.apple.com/Apple_Support_Area/Apple_Software_Updates/English-North_American/Macintosh/Display-Peripheral/Scanner/ Sorry for the long URL, but we all know how apple.com is. Anyway, Apple scanners turn up at very reasonable prices these days. I paid $20 for this one, and now that I have it working, it is a real champ. It's my understanding that they are Canon scanners that have been rebadged. If I hadn't solved this problem I was going to try a generic CanoScan driver next. Works fine on my IIsi under 7.5 with PhotoShop 4, and even works fine on my PB 3400 under 8.6 with PhotoShop 5.
