ok, so I pulled out my soldering iron and Dremel (finally getting
some use out of it other than sawing the slots of Genesis game consoles to
fit Japanese carts,) and went to work. Did the VGA mod despite the
thought of, "ugh, more work to do..."

Isolated pin 8, no problems, easier than I thought though I wasn't
especting this to be much of a trial. Then I turned the Dremel downwards
to pin 25, a little apprensive and with some worry in the back of my mind,
but easier than expected. Just to be sure, I scratched one end of the cut
with a file to be safe. Next to the soldering iron.

Soldered in the 8 to 12 wire with little problem, mostly just the
wire falling out of place a few times. Now Jumper 78, THIS turned out to
be the biggest trial of the modification, I thought it would be the
easiest. I put the iron to one end of the jumper and waited for the
solder to go liquid, it didn't, or didn't seem to. I triggered the
desoldering tool anyway. *THWACK!* Things looked the same. Tried
again... *THWACK!* Nothing. Try the other end of the jumper....
*THWACK!* things looked the same. Beginning to worry the 30 watt iron
wasn't hot enough. But I wasn't about to admit defeat. I picked up the
Dremel.

If I can't desolder the jumper, I'll cut it off, or at least grind
it into dust.

NNNNNNNNNNNGGGGHHHHHHHHHYYYYYAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!

I managed to scratch the top off of the jumper.

NNNNNNNNNGGHGHGHHHHHHNNNNNNNNNNNGGGGGGHHHHHNNNNNNNNNNNGGHHHYYAAAAAAAAHHHH!!!

no effect. crap. NNNNNNNNNNNNGHHHHHHH....ahhh forget that plan.
Let's try that iron again. Heat up the lower end of the jumper...hey
looks like that solder is going fluid. *THWACK!* Try that again to be
sure..... *THWACK!* *fwing!* YES! Jumper goes flying.

        OW! FSCK! GAH!

Flashback to high school when I accidentally grabbed the bunsen
burner with my fingers.

Check J78, connection is now cut. And no major problems soldering
a wire from pin 20 to 24. Done! Not the brain surgery I feared it to be.

Now to setting up a HD to boot this Mystic. (And figure out what
to do for the back panel.)

Finger is doing fine, but a faint mark is visible is you look real
closely. Not like those hot-dog shaped blisters on my thumb and
forefinger in chem class.
