"...find the geek."

Brilliant!! Why didn't I think of that!?!?!?!

I am simply stunned by the response to my first-ever post by
all the wonderful Mac dudes & dude-ettes out there in
cyberspace! Thanks! Your willingness to share your
knowledge, offers of support, and a modicum of symphathy
shows me that the Mac-geeks of the world are the best!!

Fortunately, (or unfortunately, depending on your point of
view) the situation has changed, at least for now.
The IT/NIS people are now preparing to dump "Windows 95" off
all the district machines & replace it with something called
"Windows 2000 Professional," ('Windows Professional 2000'?)
and load the machines w/ microsoft excell, office,
powerpoint, access, etc., etc. So I/m off the hook for a few months.

"Hey, guys, why not just buy a truckload of iMacs?"
"What, and lose the constant thrill - and constant
employment - of fixing Windows problems?"

So all plans are on hold and if I'm lucky, I can wait until
Summer School (last week of June 2003) before getting into
the world of kids & Windows. All of your responses, both
on-list and off-list, are in a large file on my hard drive
-- I'll keep working through them every weekend until I
understand this Windows stuff.

Thanks!!!

I teach in a middle school = grades 7 & 8
Yesterday the principal called me in and "volunteered" me to
teach in the computer lab, which has 36 POS Gateway
wind-bloze "machines," starting next week. (I'm the band
director, and strange as it may seem, I've never taught in a
so-called "real" classroom in 30 years -- always did like
being placed in a "least restrictive environment.")

I've never even touched a win-doze machine in my life. When
the school tossed our 70+ PM 5500s, I managed to score a PM
6500/250/System 7.6.1 to go along w/my PM 6500/300/System
7.6.1 at home.

Anyone out there in List-Land have any (serious) advice
about workable lessons, logical activities, helpful links or
any other ways (including how to start one up) to survive
this assignment w/o losing my sanity.
