> Hello List, > I want to buy an > MAC IIci with 24MB Ram, 200MB HD, additional video card 'E-Machines' and Cache Card for 20$ and / or Quadra 650, 24MB Ram, 160MB HD and > floppy drive 30$ Decent prices, for all that I think. Especially the Quadra > 1) I never used a Macintosh Welcome to the crowd :) I think you'll find they're fun machines. They're both good models to start with. > 2) In my eyes I will never need a CD Rom, or will I ? I think you will. They make loading software, especially system software, much less of a pain. > 3) Can I use an older HP 6L or Deskjet 540 printer ? Not 100% sure, but I'd bet you could. > 4) I have no monitor at all, any recommendations ? Just about any genuine Apple monitor would be good. Otherwise, any good VGA monitor you like should also work. Anything Trinitron is good, I also have a fondness for the Panasonic Panasync line... > 5) Are there any newer monitors which are going to run with these elderly ladies ? Both these machines should work fine with an adapter, especially with the extra video card in the IIci > 6) Adaptor to run both of 'em with one monitor, good idea ? Sure, it's handy. No reason not to. Just depends on if you want to use them both at the same time. > 7) Best system for both of 'em is probably 7.6, is that right ? As I am new to the Mac Platform I have no intentions on running Os 8 Best is variable. I personally am a big fan of 7.1, especially on the IIci. It flies, and there's nothing major that would run on 7.6 that doesn't on 7.1. Not only that, but a base install of 7.1 clocks in at about 1.5 megs of RAM used at boot... > 8) Is 20$ respectively 30$ a fair price Decent. Not amazing by any means, but probably worth it for the completeness of the systems. Good quality Macs in good condition are hard to find these days. > 9) I won't spend any money on upgrades Get more memory. It's dirt cheap and would add a lot :) 500-1 gig HDs would make a big difference, esp. on the Quadra, and also would be dirt cheap. Hope this helps!
