A/UX is a lot of fun to play with, but unfortunately it's not much use
beyond that. All it's tools are several years old now and haven't been
updated in some time. It also doesn't come with any of the GNU development
tools you'd really need to make it do much useful these days.

Plus there's all the security issues that have been fixed over the years
that still exist in it.

Naturally all this can be hacked in, but it would take a lot of work.

Having said that, it is incredibly neat. It feels almost like having OS X
on your 68k Mac, minus all the eye candy. It even has a "/" drive on the
desktop. However, unlike OS X, it maintains nearly 100% compatibilty with
Mac OS fairly natively, right down to most control panels and extensions
working.

About the only unfortunate thing is it acts like System 7.0.1 rather than
7.1.x. There were some software support changes between the two.

All in all, a cool thing to play with, but probably not very practical for
making use of these days.
