I use my iMac SE running OS X 10.2 as fileserver. I use the file
server to backup documents created on my powerbook and Mac Plus. The
Mac Plus had difficulties copying to the fileserver. Sometimes it
started copying but refused to continue and was unable to finish the
copying process. The Plus ran system 6.08 from a ram disk and was
connected to the network via a asante scsi-to-ethernet adapter. The
network software in its system folder was as prescribed on my website.
Wondering if another machine would have the same problems, I setup a
SE FDHD with a inbuilt kinetics ethernet as a client. The SE ran 6.08
from a hard disk and had the appropriate driver software for its card
and network software as prescribed on my webpage. The kinetics card
was connected to my utp network using a aui-to-utp-converter.
The SE suffered from the same problems... Wondering what would happen
after an 'upgrade', I 'upgraded' the system to 7.1, the network
software to installer version 1.5.1 and the appleshare workstation
version to 3.6.5. The 'upgrade' didn't help much if anything...
Wondering if yet another machine would have the same problem, I setup
my IIci as client. It already had system 6.07 installed. I upgraded
the network software as prescribed on my webpage and behold... The
IIci functioned perfectly, no problems whatsoever when uploading
files to the fileserver ... I wonder how come... The IIci has a
asante ethernet card and uses the same aui to utp converter as the SE
FDHD.

Anyone know how come?
