What kind of adaptor are you using with the NEC monitor? The (smaller) FG
series came with an "FG" adaptor from NEC, 1 of which I have; it only
supports 640 x 480. There were other adaptors -- NEC used to ship them to
you for free if you were a Mac owner & could give them a serial # for your
NEC monitor. I don't think Mitsubushi has continued the policy...but 1 can
try.
I collected 2 more of them, as I upgraded by Macs, & they would ship me a
new adaptor, if I comlained that I couldn't get all the resolutions that
my new Mac video outputs were capable of. Even if I hadn't asked for
1.... Had something to do with their standing behind their claim that any
NEC monitor would be 100% compatible with the Mac. (Who of the major PC
hardware manufacturers feels that way any more?) Very nice company. Very nice
picture on their tubes, too! I have 1 adaptor that will go to 832 x 624, &
1 that will go to 1024 x 768.
Of course there are other, 3rd party adaptors. It would probably be
worthwhile to get 1 of the 1s that have dip switches, & then play around
with it to see which resolutions your Mac will support. As was stated, the
sense-lines in the newer Macs (generally LC III & later) will enable more
resolutions in the monitors control panel, even without upgrading the
software, as the capacities of a new monitor are sensed. So should the
Radius software. Have you got Dynamic Desktop installed?
