Prestos are not cheap (for this class of machine), and I don't know if the
performance benefit would be worth the money.

Make sure you're running 7.1, it's the slimmest and sleekest System 7. Or
even System 6 if you like -- that's faster still!

Memory, memory, memory would yield untold benefits. When I went to 17MB on my
IIsi, it took off. A NuBus video card would also be helpful -- I always
espouse the benefits of the glorious 8*24*GC card, which makes video paints
on my IIsi go lightning fast. The accelerator control panel, which is needed
for proper QuickDraw acceleration, only works with System 7.1 and lower but
really the IIsi derives little benefit from 7.5 and higher (especially when
the features that 7.5 and higher provide can easily be copied to, or mimicked
in, 7.1).

If you want Ethernet, stick on a SCSI-Ethernet box like an Asante EN/SC,
which has performed very well for my IIsi.

The IIsi is the first Mac I ever owned (the Plus being the first Mac I
ever touched), and I have a certain fondness for it :-) it is still in use,
though the IIcis get more continuous activity since they're the servers.
