Quantum Fireball (not sure about the size I think about 1-2 Gig)

We used it for years before having any problems with the HD.

I did find a Performa 631CD/6116CD On Screen Demo Disk - my dad used to be a
part time Apple Rep to stores that carried Performas. The disk has System
suitcase 7.5, System 7.5 Update 1.0, System Enabler 406, Finder 7.5.1 in the
System folder. It boots the 6300, but is rejected without as much as a
temporary Happy Mac in the 550.

Also found System 7.5 Disk Tools floopy - same symptoms as other bootable
floopies tried.

Switch on power switch, press power button on keyboard.

Good Chimes on powerup.

I do get CoD when I press Command-Reset when the flashing disk icon is up.
Screen changes to black with Sad Mac icon hex numbers 00000000F and 0000000D
are under the Sad Mac.

Always powerdown before changing SCSI.

Our Macs:
Performa 6300 CD
iMac - revision 'A'
eMac w/ 24x CD/RW drive

networking resources:
LocalTalk transceivers for the 6300, 550, DeskJet, Apple II GS and
AsanteTalk.
AssanteTalk bridges to iMac/eMac ethernet ports via crossover cable
(recently got the eMac and have not yet acquired ethernet hub). Internet is
dial-up on the iMac (eMac has no modem).

Best method for transfering files between machines remains 100MB Zip Disks.

I hear the hard disk and zip disk spin.

Tried booting from floppy & zip disk w/ hard disk removed - symptoms do not
change.

> how's the PRAM battery in this machine?
> is your RAM in solidly?

PRAM battery read 2 volts on multimeter - should be 4.5. Just tried with
PRAM battery from 6300 (measured at 4 volts), did not change symptoms.

What makes an anti-static work surface. I ground myself while working on
computer parts, but I'm not familiar with 'draining' components.

It was also suggested off-list that I try the disk in an external case. I
did think of installing 550's HD in the 6300 (I am able to boot 6300 with
CDs and Zip Disks); however 6300 internal disk is IDE, 550 is SCSI - I have
no external case to try the disk in.

If I get this machine working, I want to upgrade ram (currently has 8 MB)
and add ethernet (LC PDS slot). I've also thought about the Presto Plus,
but I don't think I can justify that unless I find one used for a good
price.

Thanks for the help.
