One thing that worked for me, in getting a stiction-ed drive to work again
(it was Quantum Empire 1080MB... had been left unused for 6 months), was to
put it in an external case, leave it on a radiator for a bit so that it was
well warmed up (makes the grease in the bearings less viscous?), then plug
it in, turn it on, and then give the case some smart raps and also shake it
about in the air, while it is trying to start up...
