I have overly hostile feelings about this, as I have recieved negative feedback in the past from Canadian swappers (Not on the LEM lists though).
Customs charges do not have to be outrageous. There is an appeals process. It is very easy to have them re-apraise the value of an item; take them some sort of indication of the current value of said item. They will adjust the customs charges accordingly. When it comes down to it, customs charges are the responsibilty of the reciving, or importing party. Don't get mad, get even.
