So this drive is the only SCSI device on the bus it's
connected to? One thing to remember is that SCA80
connectors were invented as an all in one connector
with power, data and SCSI ID all provided and
controlled by the host adaptor. That way drives can
be swapped in and out without needing any
reconfiguration. To use them with a 50 or 68 pin
cable requires an adaptor to seperate out the data,
power and ID lines.

I suspect the SCA80 adaptor you have, or some setting
on it. To convert from SCA80 or 68 pin to 50 pin you
need an adaptor that properly terminates the high
byte or the "upper" 8 data lines. Check the info
on your adaptor for anything about high byte
termination.
