I've learned the hard way not to trust the system installed on a donated 
computer. Now I always erase the hard drive and either do a fresh install 
(System 7 and below) or a copy of a previous fresh install (because 
installing OS 8 or later takes so long!).

Apple gives away System 7.5.3 (and the 7.5.5 update), so you are pretty 
safe putting that on a giveaway computer. But it is rarely the best 
choice for the end user, so I ignore the legalities and do what I think 
is right.

You say you are making a web site and will charge something for the 
computers. I recommend you just give them away free and don't do any 
publicity.
