I'm working on a Mac LC for a friend that want to be able to check his AOL email from his beach house.
Yeah, I have heard all the rants on AOL. So lets move on. The LC only has a 40Mb HD so I may have to donate a 240 MB one to the cause. I'd prefer to leave it in my Quadra 800 tho. Q #1 It has been too long since I worked with the age of Mac. What is the best OS to run in the LC? It will take from 6.0.8 to 7.5.5 according to the Apple Specs. Sadly I have 6.0.8 on floppy and 7.6.1 on an installer CD. Is there somewhere that I can down load the OS that is going to be recommended, with out having to install System 7 and go thru most the incremental upgrades? Q# 2 What is the newest version of AOL that will work on this LC? I have 2.7 on floppy and 3 up on CD. It has been too long since I work on this old of a System (OS). The whole System folder has been hosed and in trying to get things back to where they belong I managed to un-bless it. And it won't re-bless and it will not boot. I have tried installing the HD in a PM 7200 and moving the System (file) out and back into the System Folder, but it will not bless. Q# 3 How do I re-bless the System Folder? Q# 4 What is going to be the best way to install a new OS? This has no Ethernet, so what are the suggestions for a new install? SCSI-mode or AppleTalk, (if I can remember how to do AT and find the cable)? There is an Apple PowerCD that came with this setup, but the LC does not seem to recognize it. Q# 5 What s/w is needed to recognize the PowerCD? TIA! Brent - Just trying to prolong the useful life of a vintage Mac. -- Vintage Macs is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
