I was just playing with a LC and came across a similar thing. If you use the keystrokes to eject a floppy it will leave a ghost of the floppy on the desktop. If you see one try dragging it to the trash. You could also try rebuilding the desktop. It has been so long since I used with System 7 that I do not remember how to get out of your situation, short of reinstalling the OS.
