That P-RAM trick is only effective on Performa like the 475.

If the Mac "eats" floppies, that drive is dirty.

Move the monitor off the top. reach to the top rear of the computer and flip
the two clips and pull the top off. check it over. Cables all connected? Use
the lever of metal on the front right of the floppy drive, with the small
circular indent, to remove the disk you inserted. Push it in with a pen tip
or small screwdriver.

Dust and clean the floppy drive. Work it until it accepts and ejects the
floppy smoothly, and the floppy sits down on it's chassis all the way.

Look over the inside carefully. Make sure the Mac has all its parts. Is
there a pair of RAMsticks in the slots at the rear-right? Is there a VRAM
(video RAM) stick or 2 to the immediate right of the RAMsticks?

Remove all the "sticks". Dust the motherboard with a small paintbrush, or
blow it out with canned air.

Check over the whole motherboard closely for signs of any cracks,
wet-stains, or other damage. Dust the fan and surrounding chassis.

Reinsert the "sticks". Check the fan and speaker plugs and cords. Connected?
Undamaged?

Look at the video plug end of the monitor. All 15 pins there?

Leaving the top off, reboot and listen for the chime. See that the fan spins
and you hear the chime. Watch for a gray background on the monitor, then a
floppy disk icon in the center of the screen with a question mark blinking.

If after all that your screen is still white, check the screen adjustments
on the monitor for contrast and brightness. If adjusting it does no good,
maybe the monitor is bad?
