in my external scsi HD case and I won't be able to buy a larger enclosure
for a while, I would like to know the likelyhood of building one out of a IIci
case and the innards of a regular low profile external scsi hd enclosure.

Thanks, that gives me some ideas, but I'm talking about a more radical
modification of the (dead) IIci. This drive is bigger in every dimension than the
standard mounting tray. It's footprint does, however, fit in a modified Syquest
box (with the housing removed, as it is still taller) which I plan to place
inside the IIci case. That should take care of the mounting and cabling
requirements, but from what I've learned so far, my main concerns are an adequate
power supply and cooling.

Which leads to my next question: what exactly (in plain english) would con
stitute an adequate power supply? Here is the model and specs page if anyone
would be kind enough to translate for me: Seagate ST410800N; 9 GB; 5400 rpm
