Jason,

What is the ethernet card you have?

You may need to load some drivers for it to make it work. Some models work with the built-in Apple drivers, some need the manufacturers drivers. OS 7.5.5 has Open Transport so if it's OK, you should see "ethernet" as one of the options when you open the TCP/IP control panel.

How do you connect to the internet?

Do you have cable or ISDN? If so, then you need a router box (~$50) to connect multiple computers to it. These typically have four LAN ports (your internal network) and a WAN port (to connect to your cable/ISDN modem). The router should contain a DHCP server built in. This automatically assigns IP addresses to the computers on your LAN, when they power-up. To make this work with the LC575 you should select DHCP in the TCP/IP control panel.

Get a browser.

I like iCab as it's (currently) a free download and they have a version for 68K Macs. They should be thanked for continued support of old Macs. Get it here:

Make sure you have maxed out your RAM (36Mb). You'll need a 32Mb, 80 ns (Max), 5V, FPM, 72-pin SIMM. Turn off virtual memory, using the Memory Control Panel. Create a RAM Disk (Memory Control Panel), say 10Mb, and configure iCab to use this as it's browser cache. Reduce your colors to 256 in the Monitors panel. This helps to speed things up.

Don't expect too much! If you are currently using a modern Mac it will seem slow by comparison, but I think it's a pleasure to see a old Mac do this.

On the other hand if you just want to read a web pages text (i.e read the news) you can use "Wanna-Be"

Which works really fast (you don't get any pictures)!

John
