They changed the name to America OnLine sometime in early 1990 or late '89. (I know this because I recently came across my old issues of the AppleLink-PE and short-lived America Online Magazine, the paper publications that went with the service.) Somewhere along the line they opened it up to other platforms, and eventually shrunk it back down to two (Mac & Windows). I bailed and switched to GEnie when the Apple II support started to wane.
