Hello Folks

I have a IIci which I want to upgrade with a LaCie 6 Gb SE HD and I am
having some problems.

I have tried formatting with the LaCie utilities which came with it
(it's from an OS8 Power Mac, ver. 5.8.3 & also Lite) with no success. I
do not have Silverlining 5.5 which is supposed to be the "best" version
for this.

I have formatted with a patched version of the Apple HDSC tools (7.3.5)
I re-initialized the driver with this ver.

When I try to install an OS (7.1, 7.5 from FD and 7.6 from CD) it goes
just so far and fails (first disc of the FDs).

The best I can do is format a partition (.5G) and copy OS 7.5 onto the
HD and it will boot & run - BUT I cannot install software as the process
fails. Word 5.1 appeard to install but when it came time to de-compress
& complete the install it failed, disk error.

Also I have an NEC external HD (D3827) which works fine with the originl
Apple 80Mb HD (with a sticky spindle motor, the start of all of
this.....) but with the La Cie (actually Quantum) the computer boots &
shows all the drives but locks up all but the mouse movement.

I think I may have an issue of HD formatting/driver but I haven't
figured out how to get around it, any suggestions?

Of course if I could get the NEC to work as a stand alone external or as
the internal drive it would be OK, too.......but it doesn't appear to
have internal termination and trying it internally with a terminated
cable does not apear to work either.

Would another formatting tool do the trick? Can one (or SL 3.5) be
downloaded anywhere? It doesn't seem worth it to pay $ for a tool to
try & see if it works especially if it is likely an obsolete tool!

Tks!

Dave R.
