You need the DayStar control panel to turn on the Turbo 601. http://www.lowendmac.com/daystar/download/index.html Once it's turned on, a value is stored in the IIci's PRAM so it'll always boot with the 601 enabled right at the start. If you zap the PRAM it turns off the Turbo 601. The Daystar control panel also has a checkbox to enable or disable SCSI Manager 4.3, but I think it's useless because no software I ever tried on mine that required SM4.3 would detect it. Another checkbox is in there to disable the RAM test at power-up. That saves a lot of time when you have lots of RAM. :) I had 80 megs in mine. You can use the Apple 601 upgrade control panel to turn the Turbo 601 _off_ but it won't turn it on because Apple never sold any 601 upgrades for 68030 based Macs. The Apple CP will work both ways with Daystar 601 upgrades for 68040 Macs. Once running, you can install Mac OS 8.1 and even hack up to 8.6 onto it. The Turbo 601 tells the OS it is a "PowerMac 475". :) But if you decide to install anything higher than OS 7.6.1 you need to keep a 68k 7.6 Disk Tools floppy handy with the DayStar control panel so you can get the 601 going again after a PRAM zap. ===== It will be total Fandemonium!
