OK, fiddling with it some more, I re-partitioned the messed up partition 
(nothing
on it anyway) and tried to install the CD-ROM drivers which was the objective
from the beginning.

Doubleclicking the installer on the CD and it gives me the message only 800k
memory avail, increase to 800k.  Launching a copy of the installer S/W from the
OS partition (or others) yields the same message except "0" memory is avail.

It looks like there is some sort of write access problem ????

BTW, the CD-ROM works fine with the old dieing HD (driver installed of course).

Any help would be appreciated!  ...(The 6Gb HD is still looking possessed!)
