Could also be lack of driver for the CD drive. If it came with a driver CD, pop it in and I believe it will recognize it and let you install the driver and away you go.
Dave PS I on the other hand have a CD drive & driver CD but 7.5 on my IIci won't permit the driver to install. I think it is an issue of a non-Apple internal HD (LaCie) and some strange write permission. It worked fine with the original Quantum 80Mb HD.
