The LC PDS cards do sit parallel with the motherboard unlike say PCI or NuBus cards, a situation which would need a right angle adaptor for those types - but LC PDS devices have the connector flat on one side of the card instead of along one edge - a picture can tell far more, and http://www.drbottkg.com/images/E430.jpg is one example showing just where the connector is located. They just plug straight in, no adaptor needed.
