What I usually do with SCSI drives that give me guff
on a Mac is to low level format them on an Adaptec
2940 PCI SCSI controller in a PC. There's no
operating system involved since it runs from the BIOS
on the controller.

If you're converting SCA80 drives to some other type
of connector, make sure the adaptor has jumpers for
setting ALL the functions common on those drives.

Macs need autostart enabled since no desktop* Mac
sends start signals on the SCSI bus. Also turn any
autostart delay OFF. Everything on the external
SCSI bus has to be up and running before booting
the Mac. Spindle Sync should be off, so should Parity
because Macs don't use it on SCSI.

*The servers that didn't run the Mac System or Mac OS
did.

On drives that have more than one set of ID jumpers,
use only one set, leaving all the jumpers off the
other sets.

Another important thing is termination power. At most
two devices should be set to send termination power
to the bus. The rest should be set to off or only
self. The ones set to send it to the bus can be set
to both (power the bus and themselves), many newer
devices only have the bus only and both settings.

It will be total Fandemonium!
