David,
 If your fridge works on gas, the electric is simple. Check for power at
the plug, then check for power on the element side of the thermostat.
There's only about 3 things that could possibly be wrong:

No power at all

Bad thermostat, not allowing power to get to the element

Bad element, so there's no heat even though it has power.
