  There is mention in the book of a neon light on the electrical switch box
that indicated polarity. If Light glows remove 2 prong plug and reverse
direction.
  Do you have a little gray box that the incoming 110 power connects to ?

  If so do you have a light or remnants of a light on the Box ?
