my vote is crap in the hw lines right __after__ (where you join back up
after the bypass)   the HWH   also check any in line valve  then if this
does not work  stand near the HWH on a firm level surface and kick the HWH
with your left foot and yell out " piece of #@$^&!"  Then try and find out
where that big chunk of crud is caught in your lines.
