I have run into this problem many times over the years, with rear lights on
the old step side pickups and all kind of trailer lights. It is so simple to
just go ahead and run both wires. If you plan to do a rewire by all means
install 2 wires, there is no reason other than saving a penny, no to run a
hot and a ground. I reccomend that you connect the "ground" wire to the
chassis at some point.
