Pete,
The Univolt should charge your battery while plugged into AC. If it doesn't 
check all the connections especially the connections at the battery. I 
wouldn't connect another charger to the battery while the battery is 
connected to the trailer system, I'm not sure but it may do damage to the 
Univolt.
