I'm not quite sure if it will work but look at page 1519 of the WW Grainger 
catalogue # 391. Ball plungers might be installed somewhere around the 
socket to "tighten" it up.

I'm guessing they are just plain worn out.  In my '67 Caravel the sockets 
have
expanded and stretched since they are made of aluminum.  I'm so sick of the
problem that I'm thinking about changing them out.  But I hate to because 
they
look so cool.  If anyone has figured out how to fix these, please share the
