I get voles (like a rat/mouse thing) in the heater channels all the time. Do a visual inspection for droppings near the car and nests. Might want to peek in the carb before starting it to see if anything found its way in there. :-)
That's the only non-obvious thing that I can recall ever happening to me. 12 months isn't too long for cold storage these days.
