Major body welding is required for this mod because the distance between the two beams on a balljoint front beam and a linkpin front beam are different. I own a 1963 but she has a balljoint front suspension because the previous owner had to weld in an entirely new framehead at the front of the bellypan. Whether he did this on purpose or accidentally after buying the incorrect beam is unknown, but it was a body-off-pan job at the time. I suppose it would be possible to make the swap with the body still on, but it wouldn't be nearly as "easy".
And if you're thinking of simply swapping out leaves, trailing arms, spindles, etc from a balljoint beam and installing everything into a linkpin beam, you can forget it. :( -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of tammer Sent: June 2, 2007 12:33 AM To: vintagvw Subject: [vintagvw] linkpin to balljoint What's involved in changing a linkpin front end into balljoint? What parts are needed? Will there be any welding or fabrication involed or is it "bolt on"? _______________________________________________ vintagvw site list [email protected] http://lists.sjsu.edu/mailman/listinfo/vintagvw _______________________________________________ vintagvw site list [email protected] http://lists.sjsu.edu/mailman/listinfo/vintagvw
