IIRC 1965 was the first year for the spring with an
extra bale on it, like this one:

...but you should be able to use the earlier-type if
it's all you can find.
Beware the aftermarket chromed springs, they typically
are too weak to hold the hood open reliably (you'll
get conked on the head).
