Hi, Asad (and others),

The dimmable rear-view mirror was part of the "L" trim version sold in most
places outside of the USA. The 1300L and 1500L models differed from their
"plain" counterparts by offering a package of 10 "extras" (some of which
were standard on the USA versions). Specifically, the 1970 1300L and 1500L
in Europe included:

= Two backup lights
= Rubber bumper protectors
= Dimmable rear-view missor
= Padded dashboard
= Brake warning light on dashboard
= Mirror in passenger's sin visor
= Locking glove compartment
= Pockets in both doors
= Ashtrays in both rear side panels
= Better quality floor carpeting.

So far as I know, any of these could be individually specified at the time
one ordered one's car from the VW dealer, as each had an "M"-number (it
stands for "Mehrausstattung" or "additional outfitting").

My old '69 came with that kind of mirror stock. I think it was an across
the board change that year.
