Volks, I need advice about replacing the carpet clamping strips along my door thresholds and across the rear luggage deck (behind the back seat) in my '70 beetle.
I welded in new door threshold strips but got the type with no carpet clamping strips. Bad choice, since restoring factory-original carpeting seems to require them. Also, I put in a new rear firewall/luggage shelf unit (it's ABS plastic) that will be covered over with the original factory nubbed gray vinyl, but needs a holder strip along its front to hold the piece that forms the rear seatback as well as the luggage compartment vinyl. Anybody know where these strips can be found? The part-donor carcasses I've found have badly worn/rusted strips that mainly can serve as models. Can't find any aftermarket catalogs with them -- I tried all the usual suspects (WW, WCM, MAM, etc.). I'm thinking of modifying some dime-store curtain rod -- the telescoping aluminum kind with a flat "C" cross section. Think that could work? They're a little flimsier. Free advice will be welcomed!
