Hi, Courtney,

I've just gone through all that myself. The first set I got was WCM
purchased from a local foreign-car-parts supply house: they were brittle
and oxidised. When I complained, they admitted they might have sat in a hot
warehouse in Little Rock for a few years! I got a refund and ordered a
fresh set directly from WCM. The rubber from West Coast Metric is great --
they're American made of a high-quality rubber. They even *smelled* like
fresh rubber. An experienced local knowledgable guy tells me that WCM
produces a higher-quality product than the OEM supplier in Germany.

I got all new windshield, rear-window, quarter-window, body seals and vent
wing rubber. The fit was flawless and they had plenty of stretch and
flexibility. Getting the anodised aluminium trim inserted into the channels
was a bit challenging, but I got pretty good at it (after messing up one
strip).

The 1970 models (Euro 1300, 1500, and North American 1600 models) came with
"Argent Silver" wheels. A previous owner had subbed some assorted
wrong-year wheels. I swapped around for a set of 4 correct wheels, paid to
have them blasted and powder-coated silver. They're beautiful.

Tell me about your car.

P.S.: It's not always true that you get what you pay for. But it's certain
that you don't get what you don't pay for! Caveat emptor!

Subject: [vintagvw] Decent window rubber seals for 70 bug and VW's in
general

There appears to be a bewildering assortment of window seals out there, many
various Brazilian ones, German ones, U.S. ones. I am doing a body off resto
of a 70 beetle, with my son-in-law, and would like to suffer the least
amount of frustration. I am thinking German or WCM seals? Would REALLY
appreciate some guidance here, in fact, for ALL the seals. Money is a
concern, but frustration is a BIGGER concern. :-) I'm thinking you get what
you pay for.
Thanks,
Courtney
