Kristof & Volks,

The minivan is probably the best candidate for the next generation of
"plug-in" all-battery vehicles, especially for local delivery use. The
latest generation of batteries is smaller and holds a charge much longer. I
would bet that a Type 2 with modern batteries could be very practical.

One current problem (no pun intended) is that the electrical generating net
in most countries would not suffice to having millions of electric vehicles
connected to it daily. And most electricity is environmentally unfriendly
(except perhaps in the Netherlands, with those giant wind farms). Where I
live -- in the Southern United States -- every summer already brings
"brown-outs" on very hot days, when too many households run air conditioners
at once, overloading the grid. Imagine if they were also recharging
automobiles! And nearly all of our electricity is generated from burning
coal -- and there is still no such thing as "clean coal," despite what the
propagandists say. And nuclear generating remains very expensive.
