There's a guy in Austria who is selling a genuine 1970 VW 1200 that's
mustered out by the old Austrian Gendarmerie. Says it runs well, has been
garaged its whole life, but needs some work (he's specified). Still has its
blue lights, but needs siren and police radio to be reinstalled. It's in
original Austrian Police gray.
He wants 1,990 euros for it -- about $2,500 nowadays. I'd love it but can't
afford two police cars. Anybody interested? The 1200 "Sparkäfer" from 1970
is a rarity anyhow (1967-looking bumpers, pasteboard interior, rubber mats)
and the police version (bigger alternator, extra cabling, vinyl interior) is
even rarer.
