Hello, Are you finding your show via the Search tab? If so, the results will readout like this: 11:30 PM, Sun. 4/22, 121 HUB Family Ties Button Record Button.
This is flicking your finger right. You can either tap on the show title or the record button. If you tap on the show, it brings up a screen that will allow you to watch the channel, record the show, and gives you a description of the episode. One last thing, if you decide to tap record on the first page of results, it is an automatic record, no options are given. If you tap record on the show page, you get to choose to record the episode or the series.
