Hi, yes, a signature contributes to the 160 character limit. This is why I personally don't use it. However I have unlimited texting in my plan and so it wouldn't matter. I just don't see the need for it. Maybe this is why Apple didn't include this feature in the iPhone. Also, the abbreviation feature of iOS is really neat because for example, I have it set to myn as a shortcut for Raul A. Gallegos and that way it saves on typing. On a side note, why is it that the word "abbreviation" is so long? That's rhetorical BTW.

Hi Alison, Raul and Christina,

Wouldn't any sort of signature count towards the 160 character limit
of an SMS message? Of course it's not a big deal if you have an
unlimited plan and that with iMessage this limit doesn't exist, but I
assume one would want to keep one's signature short.

I was also going to suggest Christina's recommendation which is to use
the "Shortcuts" feature in "Settings", "General", "Keyboard".
Shortcuts are at the very end of the Keyboard options, if you have
never added any I think it only has "OMW" in there which you type to
write "On my way". In your case, Alison, you could flick to the very
end where it says "Add new shortcut" and define something like "ALFT"
to write out your name and whatever else you want to include.

I actually haven't made use of this feature a lot yet, either, but it
is very useful and I will start to keep it in mind when I am writing
text messages and emails to see what sort of text snipets I seem to
use a lot.
