Hi! Digit-Eyes was designed for the 3Gs camera and it will work fine.
We like the 4 because it has the flashlight that we can employ when we find you are in a dark area (withe the 3GS, you'll get a message that it is too dark to scan) You'll find on the 3Gs that the camera in general has to be a little closer than the 4 /4S.
